Your pet's measurements are most important in choosing a size. Weight or breed suggestions are only starting points.
Sizing for pets is not standardized so different manufacturers and companies have different sizing charts.
Know your pet's measurements to make shopping easier. Dogs just like people come in all shapes and sizes even when they weigh the same weight. Once you know your pet's measurements you can have fun shopping!
Using a soft tape measure is the easiest way to find your pet's vital measurements: Neck, Length (base of the neck to tail), and Chest/Girth (the largest part of the chest ust behind the front legs). Weight can be a good starting point when looking at size charts but is not as important as the Chest and Neck measurements. Be sure to give lots of hugs, pets and praise when measuring your pet....they will appreciate the extra care you take in securing the correct size for them, not to mention helping you avoid returns and exchanges.
Harnesses that do not adjust around the neck need to also fit over your pet's head, so sometimes dogs with very large heads but a smaller neck, may need to size up. Be sure to check this when ordering something that does not stretch or is not adjustable around the neck.
If your pet is between sizes you may need to size up to ensure a proper fit.

Even though you can expect some degree of adjustability with your new dog collar, it is important to measure your dog carefully.
Collars: If you are satisfied with the fit of your dog's current collar, measure that collar from the center of the buckle (start of leather) to the closest and farthest hole, that is the sizing that the collar adjusts. Each of our collars gives the sizing that the collar adjusts to...for instance a Small might adjust from 11-14" which means that from the base of the buckle to the closest hole is 11" and to the farthest hole is 14".
If you don't have a current buckle collar that fits, then measure your pet's neck with a soft tape measure allowing 1-2 fingers under the tape measure for comfort, or add 1-2" to the snug neck measurement for comfort. Typically allowing 1" for smaller dogs is enough and large dogs may need up to 2" added.

Shortest adjustment of collar is measurement to the closest hole.
Unfortunately there is not a Standardized sizing in the Pet Industry for pet apparel. Sizing from manufacturer to manufacturer varies greatly and what is a Large to one may be a Medium or 3XL to another. Just as humans come in all sizes and shapes so do our pets.
To assist you in choosing a size that will ensure the best fit for your pet, we try to give you not only the manufacturers sizing chart but also may give you the actual measurements of an item as well. In pet clothing the chest measurement is usually the most important that drives a size choice. Many companies only give the length of a garment but we try to give a neck opening measurement, chest measurement as well as the length to assist you in choosing the right size for your pet.
Soft Harness Sizing:
Be sure to check the sizing of each harness and compare your pet's measurements to the minimum actual measurements of the harness to ensure a proper fit. We carry harnesses from multiple companies and manufacturers and they are not all sized a like.
Soft dog harnesses neck openings slip over your pet's head much like a t-shirt neck opening slips over your head. Not only is your dog's neck measurement at the base of the neck, just above the shoulders, important but also the circumference of your dog's head, so it will fit through the opening. If your dog has a very broad head you may need to go up a size or if your dog is very long you may need to go up a size. Please feel free to contact us with help on sizing if you are unsure. Weight is only a starting place in selecting size. Contact us at info@petswithstyleboutique.com for the quickest response to sizing questions. Please have your pet's neck measurement, chest measurement, neck to tail length, breed and weight of dog as all can help us help you choose the best size for your pet.
Please measure your pet and compare to the minimum actual measurements of the harness to ensure a proper fit. Your pet's harness will sit at the base of the neck. The back length of the harness will let you know how far on your pet's back from the base of the neck it will be, and the abdominal length measurement will let you know how far back on your pet's abdomen it will come, so that you can determine where the chest strap will be. You want it to fit an inch or two behind the front legs to allow for ease of movement.
